Xuanhanosaurus qilixiaensis

Xuanhanosaurus is derived from "Xuanhan" (for Xuanhan County in Sichuan) and the Greek "sauros" (lizard).
The
species epithet, means "from Qilixia" in Latin.
Discovery
The remains of
Xuanhanosaurus were discovered in the Xiashaximiao Formation at Qilixia Town, Xuanhan County, Sichuan Province, China, by Dong Zhiming in 1979.
The
holotype (IVPP V.6729) includes fragmentary back vertebrae, a partial shoulder girdle, a possible sternum, a forelimb (humerus, radius, ulna) and a hand.
