Nevadadromeus schmitti
(Schmitt's Nevade Runner)Etymology
Nevadadromeus is derived from "Nevada" (the state in which it was found) and the Greek "dromeus" (runner).
The
species epithet,
schmitti, honours James G ("Jim") Schmitt, a professor of geology at Montana State University, where Bonde (the lead author) obtained his master’s degree in geological and earth sciences.
Discovery
The remains of
Nevadadromeus were discovered in the upper mudrock member of the Willow Tank Formation, Valley of Fire State Park, Clark County, southern Nevada, USA, by Joshua Bonde and students from from Montana State University in 2008.
The
holotype (NSC 2008-002) includes a partial left and right thigh, four partial vertebrae, three foot claws, two toe bones, and as yet unidentified fragment.
