Kelumapusaura machi
(Maachi's Red Earth Lizard)Etymology
Kelumapusaura is derived from the Mapudungun "Kelumapu" (red earth) and the Greek "saura" (feminine form of lizard).
The species epithet, machi, refers to the shaman of the
Mapuche people.

Discovery
The first remains of Kelumapusaura were discovered in the Allen Formation (Neuquén Group) at Matadero Hill within Arriagada Farm, 70 km south of General
Roca city, Río Negro Province, north-west Patagonia, Argentina.The holotype (MPCN-PV-80) is partial skull, a neck vertebra, a partial block of hip vertebrae (sacrum), part of a tail vertebra and the left side of a breast plate. Paratype specimens PCN-PV-808 (a partial tooth-bearing bone of the right lower jaw), MPCN-PV-809 (hip and tail vertebrae), MPCN-PV-810 (a right shoulder blade), MPCN-PV-811 and MPCN-PV-912 (two hip bones: the left ilium and right ischium), MPCN-PV-813 (a right thigh), and MPCN-PV-814 (metatarsal IV) were found 23m from the holotype, mingled with remains of a titanosaur called Menucocelsior arriagadai.
