Huashanosaurus qini
(Qin's Huashan Mountain Lizard)Etymology
Huashanosaurus is derived from "Huashan" (for Huashan Mountain in Ningming County, where the holotype was found) and the Greek "sauros" (lizard).The species epithet, qini, honours Jian Qin, who discovered the fossil site.
Discovery
The remains of Huashanosaurus were discovered in the Wangmen Formation at Huqiu Quarry near Dongshi Village, Beijiang Town, Ningming County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, by local teacher Jian Qin in 2002.The holotype (NHMG 034093, housed at the Natural History Museum of Guangxi) is a partial skeleton consisting of a chunk of a back vertebra, a partial rib, the end of the upper left arm, a partial left forearm bone, one finger bone, part of the left hip, the end of a thigh and the smaller lower‑leg bone, part of a foot bone, and a foot claw.
The paratype (CRAN 0001, housed at Cultural Relics Administration of Ningming County) is four tail vertebrae, two tail spines, and one toe bone.
