Campylodoniscus is derived from the Greek "kampylos" (bent or curved, like a bow), "odon" (tooth') and -iscus (likeness, similarity, in the style of).
The
species epithet,
ameghinoi, honours Carlos Ameghino who discovered its remains.

Discovery
The remains of
Campylodoniscus were discovered in the Bajo Barreal Formation (Chubut Group) at West slope, Sierra de San Bernardo, Chubut, Argentina, by Carlos Ameghino.
The
holotype (MACN A-IOR63) is a partial maxilla (tooth bearing bone of the upper jaw) with seven tooth sockets, some of which contain teeth.
