Chingkankousaurus fragilis
(Fragile Ching-kang-k'ou Lizard)Etymology
Chingkankousaurus is derived from the Wade-Giles "Ching-kang-k'ou" (Chinese Pinyin: "Jin-gan-kou", referring to Jingankou village) and the Greek "sauros" (lizard).
The
species epithet,
fragilis, means "fragile" in Latin.
Discovery
The remains of
Chingkankousaurus were discovered in rocks of the Wangshi Series at Jingankou (Chingkankou) Village, Shandong province in eastern China.
The
holotype (IVPP V836) is a partial right shoulder blade, which, according to Young, "basically resembles that of
Allosaurus but is smaller".
