Uragasaurus is derived from "Uraga" (from the Sanskrit word for "snake" or "serpent"), referring to the typically long necks of mamenchisaurids, and the Greek "sauros" (lizard). The species epithet, kalasinensis (kaa-la-sin-en-sis), is derived from "Kalasin" (for Kalasin Province) and the Latin "-ensis" (from). Discovery
The remains of Uragasaurus were discovered in the Phu Kradung Formation at the Phu Noi Locality, Ban Din Chi village, Kham Muang District, Kalasin Province, Northeastern Thailand.
The holotype (PRC 460—housed at the Palaeontological Research and Education Centre [PRC] at Mahasarakham University, Thailand) is a single back vertebra.
Referred specimens include KS 34-581 and KS 34-586 (two back vertebral arches), KS 34-587 (a left shoulder bone), KS 34-588 (a left calf bone), KS 34-602a (one neck vertebra), KS 34-602b (one neck rib), and KS 34-692 and PN 13-23 (two back vertebra).
