Itapeuasaurus cajapioensis

Itapeuasaurus is derived from "Itapeua" (for Itapeua beach) and the Greek "sauros" (lizard). The species epithet, cajapioensis, is ferived from "Cajapió" (for the Cajapió municipality in which it was found ) and the Latin "ensis" (from).
Discovery
The remains of Itapeuasaurus were discovered at in the Alcântara Formation (Itapecuru Group) on Itapeua beach in the Cajapió municipality, Maranhão State, Brazil, by fisherman Carlos Wagner Silva in November 2014.
The holotype (UFMA. 1.10.1960), housed in the fossil collection of the Universidade Federal do Maranhão, consists of a partial back vertebra (UFMA. 1.10.1960-01) and five tail vertebrae (UFMA. 1.10.1960-03, 1.10.1960-04, 1.10.1960-05 and 1.10.1960-07, 1.10.1960-08).
The paratype includes the top part of a vertebral spine from the back (UFMA. 1.10.1960-02), one tail vertebra (UFMA. 1.10.1960-06), two chevrons (UFMA. 1.10.1960-10 and 1.10.1960-11), and a pelvic bone (UFMA. 1.10.1960-09).
Referred fossils include tail vertebrae (1.10.19 60-12 and 1.10.19 60-13), vertebral spines (1.10.19 60-14, 1.10.19 60-15, 1.10.19 60-16, 1.10.19 60-17, 1.10.19 60-18 and 1.10.19 60-19), unidentified fragments (1.10.19 60-20 and 1.10.19 60-21), and a rib (1.10.19 60-22).
