Liaoningotitan is derived from "Liaoning" (for Liaoning Province) and the Greek "titan" (for the giant pre-Olympian deities of Greek mythology).
The species epithet, sinesis, means "from China" in Latin.
Discovery
The remains of Liaoningotitan were discovered in the Jianshangou member of the Yixian Formation near Xiaobeigou Village, Shangyuan Town, Beipiao City, western Liaoning Province, China.
The holotype (PMOL-AD00112) includes vetebrae from the neck, back, hip and tail, left shoulder blade, both upper arms, left lower arm, a right hand, pelvic girdle, right thigh, both shins and calfs, and a right foot.
