Yuzhoulong is derived from "Yuzhou" (the ancient name of Chongqing in Chinese) and the Chinese Pinyin "Long" (dragon).
The species epithet, qurenensis, is derived from "Quren" (the ancient name for Yunyang County) and the Latin "ensis" (from).

Discovery
The remains of Yuzhoulong were discovered in the Lower Shaximiao Formation at Laojun Village, Pu’an Town, Yunyang County, Chongqing Municipality, southwest China, in 2016.
The holotype (CLGRP V0001) consists of a partial skull, twelve back vertebrae, a hip vertebra, ten tail vertebrae, a left shoulder girdle, left and right arms (humerus, ulna and radius), three hand bones, pelvic bones (left ilium, both pubes and ischia), both thighs and shins, a left calf, and several back ribs and chevrons.
