Kamuysaurus japonicus

(Kamuy Lizard of Japan)Etymology
Kamuysaurus is derived from "Kamuy" (a deity of the indigenous people of Japan's Hokkaido Island known as the Ainu) and the Greek "sauros" (lizard). The species epithet, japonicus, refers to Japan.
Discovery
The first remains of Kamuysaurus were discovered in the middle of the IVb unit of the Hakobuchi Formation (Yezo Group), along Shirafunezawa Creek in the northern Hobetsu area of Mukawa town, on the island of Hokkaido, Japan, by amateur paleontologist and Mukawa resident Yoshiyuki Horita in 2003.
The holotype (HMG-1219—housed at the Hobetsu Museum, in the Hobetsu area of Mukawa town, Hokkaido, Japan), is nearly complete skeleton with the skull and jaws.
