Ceratocaudia is derived from the Greek "kerat" (horn) and the Latin "cauda" (tail), in reference to the horn-like crest on the spine of one of its tail vertebra.
The species epithet, antiqua, means "ancient" in Latin.
Discovery
The remains of Ceratocaudia were discovered in the Kaladongar Formation (Khadir Uplift), in the Kachchh district of Gujarat state, India.The holotype (IITBR3—IITBR59, housed in the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in Mumbai) is a partial skeleton, including several neck and tail vertebrae, one chevron, a forearm bone, hand bones, thigh, shin and calf bones, and a foot bone.
