The species epithet, saegusai, honours the late Dr. Haruo Saegusa, who was the leader in dinosaur excavation in the Tamba area, and a significant contributor to vertebrate paleontology in Hyogo Prefecture.
Discovery
The remains of Sasayamagnomus were discovered in the Ohyamashimo Formation (Sasayama basin) at the Miyada microvertebrate site, Tamba-Sasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, by Kiyoshi Adachi.
