Skorpiovenator bustingorryi
(Bustingorry's Scorpion Hunter)Etymology
Scorpiovenator is derived from the Greek "scorpio" (scorpion) and the Latin "venator" (hunter), because of the abundance of live scorpions at the digsite.
The
species epithet,
bustingorryi, honors Manuel Bustingorry, owner of the farm where the specimen was found.
Discovery
The remains of
Scorpiovenator were discovered in the Huincul Formation at Bustingorry's Farm, 3 km NW of Villa El Chocón, Neuquén Province, NW Patagonia, Argentina. The
holotype (MMCH-PV 48) is a nearly complete skeleton missing the right forearm and half of the tail.
