Wudingloong wui
[Wu's Wuding Dragon]
Etymology
Wudingloong is derived from "Wuding" (for Wuding County) and the Chinese "long" (dragon). The species epithet, wui, honours Dr. Xiao-Chun Wu (Canadian Museum of Nature) for his significant contribution to the research on the dinosaurs and other vertebrate fossils from Yunnan Province.
Discovery
The remains of Wudingloong were discovered in the Yubacun Formation at Wande Town, Wuding County, Yunnan Province, China, in September 2020.
The holotype (LFGT-YW002) is a partial skeleton including skull and lower jaw, a series of vertebrae from the atlas-axis to the seventh back vertebrae, back ribs, right shoulder girdle, right forelimb and hand.
